Simple Living in God's Creation

We have been reading Rushdoony's "Institutes of Biblical Law" again recently, the chapter that deals with the sixth commandment: Thou shalt not kill.

One of the aspects mentioned that we have been discussing, apart from his very interesting views on work and the meaning and value of work in men's call and life, was the aspect of man's tendency to destroy rather than to build.

If you follow this thought, you can see quickly that really, man does not create anything. All our inventions (or rather, discoveries), all our technology, all the things that man "creates", ultimately only use God's creation and meddle with it to meet man's needs. And this meddling is always, in one way or another, destructive to nature. No matter how you slice it, nothing man produces or thinks up ultimately furthers good stewardship over creation, but the opposite is true. The best people can do anymore is trying to heal creation's wounds, trying to be good stewards to what is left of God's initial creation, and thereby help it to return to its original state.

So there is only one creator God, who made the heavens and the earth, the dust and the stars, the big and the small things alike, and we are called to have dominion over it as His "imagers", to use a word Michael Heiser used to explain it, as those God appointed to rule over creation in His stead. Indeed, so far we made quite a mess of it !

So the fallen nature of man shows in every respect, in his own depravity to strive for power and destruction instead of trust and obedience to God, in his unwillingness to truly care for God's creation and His creatures.

Why am I telling you all this, dear Christian college student, why should a young lady know all this ? Because you are about to make your major choices in life soon. Are you going to choose a life in harmony with God's creation and in obedience to His Law-Word ? Are you going to choose the simple life we have been talking about for many days now, are you going to devote your life to God, your husband and your children to be what God calls you to be, your husband's help meet and a pure and godly and industrious housekeeper, so ultimately, are you going to choose life instead of death, and trust that God's word was true when Moses asked the Israelites this questions, like is it true now ?
