12 Obstacles on the Way to God
The following beliefs cannot be grounded on Scripture, yet they are very common among Christians. We have the strong feeling that they might be part of the great deception Jesus warns us against (Mat 24:4).
1. God's Law as given to Moses and explained in the case laws in the Old Testament is not valid anymore.
2. God's love is unconditional because conditional love is imperfect.
3. Jesus' death on the cross reversed the Fall and changed man's sinful nature back to its original pre-fall state.
4. There is going to be a pre-trib rapture.
5. God is a humanist and appoints the same rights and duties to men and women.
6. There is such a thing as progressive revelation - God allowed people to sin for a while in the OT times.
7. The bible is to be understood mainly culturally.
8. God is not sovereign - people can act against His will and plan.
9. There will be no Judgment when Jesus returns.
10. The bible doesn't need to be taken as a whole, not all of Scripture is relevant or profitable anymore.
11. Church attendance equals, or at least is a prerequisite to, salvation.
12. There is only one spirit that influences people's decisions, and that is God's Spirit.
These twelve beliefs (most probably among many more) keep people from doing what God wants them to do according to His word.
